Here are the 3 essential qualities a good coach needs:
1. Be accessible
By making yourself accessible, you can observe how the person being coached is performing. Also, it creates a space and opportunity for discussions. If you are hardly available or maintain regular contact with your coachee, he or she may be hesitant to approach you with any issues. As a coach, it is important that others find it easy to ask for help or share their concerns.
2. Be competent
In order to coach others well, you have to invest in yourself the skills and knowledge that are appropriate to be considered an expert. Being a coach to another employee means you need to possess a broader knowledge about your company, your customers and their needs, trends in the industry and challenges facing the business. Thus, it is crucial to attend conferences, talk to your customers, network extensively to keep up to date with news and development in your field of work.
3. Be other-oriented
Are you genuinely interested in helping your coachee? As a coach, your main task is to help the coachee learn and grow. You will have to put the coachee’s needs at the forefront and think of how best to guide your coachee.
