A Checklist for Performance Improvement in Coaching

After creating goals and assessing the coachee’s performance, it is vital to formulate a plan to improve your coachee’s performance. Here is a useful checklist:

 


  1. What is the goal? Recall what is the desired outcome to be achieved.

  2. What are your roles? List down the tasks for you and your coachee.

  3. When will you do it? What is a reasonable deadline? Are there opportunities to invest in?

  4. How will you execute it? State clearly the steps and processes. Think about the resources and support needed.

  5. Potential challenges: Highlight the possible barriers the coachee may face such as lack of expertise knowledge. Think about what you as a coach can do to ease the way or provide a safety net for his efforts?

  6. Evaluation: How will you determine if the coachee has accomplished the goals?

  7. Accountability: What are the implications of success or failure? Is the coachee aware of the consequences or penalties if he fails to achieve the goals?
